SLOW START DOOMS LIONS IN 81-60 LOSS AT ABILENE CHRISTIAN

Abilene, Texas- A&M-Commerce struggled early and allowed Abilene Christian to get out to an 19-7 by the under 12 media time out. The Lions offense hit some road bumps in the first half. Amber Carver and Aubree Butts combined for 14 of the 30 first half points for the Lions.

Carver was just getting started with seven rebounds in the first half to go along with her seven points. In the second half she was even more productive with eight points and 12 rebounds finish with 15 points and 19 rebounds to go along with 2 blocks.

The Wildcats came into the game with a balanced attack and showed why they had four double figure scorers. Kelsey Smith, Mackenzie Lankford, Sandie Dickinson all scored in double figures. Smith recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lions cut the lead to 14 with just under four minutes to play at 71-57. A&M-Commerce did shoot the ball better in the second at 31% in the second half. Breanna Harris added seven points; La'Tisha Hearne and Butts added four each.

The Lions defense really put the clamps down against the Wildcats from behind the arc. ACU struggled and made five three point field goals on 20 attempts. The Lions also held the Wildcats off the glass. A&M-Commerce outrebounded Abilene Christian 49-38 and 26-9 on the offensive glass. However the Wildcats shot 80% from the free throw line and made 32 free throws.

A&M-Commerce will look to get back in the win column against the Rambelles of Angelo State this Saturday at the Field House. The game is set to tip at 2:00 p.m. followed by the men's game.
