Gililland Leads A&M-Commerce in Day One of 2008 Broncho Masters


The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's is in sixth place after Monday's opening round of the 2008 Broncho Masters at the Fairfax Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma.

The Lions shot a first round 329 and trail leader St. Edward's by 31 strokes, who shot a first day 308. The Hilltoppers are led by co-leader Kirby Baker, who shot a 1-over 73. She shares the lead with Emily Leahey of host Central Oklahoma. The Bronchos are three strokes behind St. Edward's.

A&M-Commerce senior Jamie Gililland had one of her best rounds of the fall, shooting a team-best 5-over, 77 in the opening round. Gililland is tied for seventh overall and four strokes behind her is junior Heather Pantalion, who shot an 81 and tied for 17th. Sophomore Megan Benites is a stroke behind Pantalion with an 82 and tied for 24th. Senior Ali Tanner is 42nd with an 89 and sophomore Kathleen May is tied for 47th with a 92.

The Lions are just three strokes away from fifth and four out of fourth-place honors as Tuesday's final round gets underway at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
