May Leads A&M-Commerce After Opening Round of Tarleton State/Coca-Cola Classic

Texas A&M University-Commerce junior Kathleen May (pictured) is tied for 19th after the opening round of the Tarleton State University/Coca-Cola Classic at Harbor Lakes Golf Club in Granbury, Texas.

Host Tarleton State, who is currently ranked seventh in the nation, leads the tournament by a stroke over Grand Canyon University. The TexAnns have four golfers in the top 12 and shot an eight-over par, 296. Individual leader, Georgia Dunn, who shot a two-under 70 for a two-stroke lead, leads GCU.

A&M-Commerce is tied for 13th with Newman University after posting a 320. The Lions are a stroke out of 11th-place, four out of 10th and five out of ninth. 

May shot a four-over par 76 to lead the Lions. Senior Heather Pantalion and sophomore Malonie Oats are tied for 44th after both shot an 80 and junior Megan Benites is tied for 65th after a opening round of 84. Junior Mallory Kempf was forced to withdraw from the round due to illness. 

Round two gets underway for the Lions with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
