Texas A&M University-Commerce sophomore women's golfer Malonie Oats was named to the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Golf Team on Monday.
The Cooper, Texas native ended her sophomore season with an 85.39 stroke average in nine tournaments. She finished 37th at the Lone Star Conference Championships, including a career-best round of 75 in the final round. She posted a season-best tied for 29th place finish at the Red River Intercollegiate.
Oats was also named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom and on the golf course. She'll be the treasurer in 2010-11 of the A&M-Commerce Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
