McMAHAN'S TOP-15 FINISH PACES LIONS AT LADY RATTLER ROUND-UP

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A&M-Commerce made a run over the final 18 holes of the Lady Rattler Round-Up, shooting a 48-over 332 to move up one spot and finish eighth out of the 11 team field. The 332 was the fifth-best round of the day as the Lions just missed finishing among the top-seven.

Sophomore Chantry McMahan once again paced the Lions, shooting a team-low 9-over 80 over the final 18 holes, moving into a five-way tie for 14th place in the individual standings with a 21-over 163. The top-20 finish was the fourth of the season for McMahan as she edged out sophomore teammate Chelsea McCoy, who finished tied for 22nd with a 24-over 166 after notching an 11-over 82 over the final round.

Sophomore Sara Diaz shaved one stroke off her opening round score, posting a 16-over 87 during Tuesday’s final round and placing 37th with a 33-over 175. Teammate Holly Jenkins had the biggest improvement for A&M-Commerce, shaving 10 shots off her opening round total to post a 12-over 83 Tuesday and tie for 38th with a 34-over 176.

A&M-Commerce entered the final round in eighth place out of the 11-team field but was able to leapfrog Incarnate Word (114-over 682), besting the Cardinals by two shots. The Lions finished one stroke back of seventh-place Arkansas-Smith (111-over 679) and two shots back of sixth-place host St. Mary’s (110-over 678).

St. Edward’s captured the 2012 Lady Rattler Round-Up title, shooting a 50-over 618 and defeating second-place Tarleton State (55-over 623) by five shots. Hawaii-Hilo (73-over 641) placed third with Angelo State (85-over 653) and Western New Mexico (107-over 675) rounding out the top-five. Individually, the TexAnn’s Jessica Pickwick held off Wallis Spears of St. Edward’s by one stroke, capturing the individual title with an 8-over 150.

A&M-Commerce will now have a few weeks off before returning to the links at the Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, hosting its annual Lion Spring Invitational March 12-13. The field is expected to be the largest in tournament history as close to 20 schools are expected to compete.
