Opening Tee
A&M-Commerce wrapped up the 2011-12 golf season with a third-place showing at the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships on April 17 at Trophy Club, Texas. The third-place showing was the third top-10 finish of the season for the Lions, who also placed among the top-10 in six of their 10 events on the year.
McMahan Garners All-Lone Star Conference Honors
Sophomore Chantry McMahan continued to add to her impressive resume, recording five top-10 finishes and an additional top-20 showing on the year, being named a second team All-Lone Star Conference selection. McMahan led A&M-Commerce in scoring average on the year at 78.11 and was the top A&M-Commerce finisher in nine of the Lions' 10 tournaments. She capped the season with a second-place showing at the LSC Championships for the second-straight year, earning All-LSC tournament recognition. McMahan was also tabbed A&M-Commerce's Dr. Margo Harbison Women's Golfer of the Year for the second-consecutive season.
Diaz Emerges In Sophomore Season For Lions
Sophomore Sara Diaz compiled her best season as a Lion in 2011-12, ranking second on the team with an 80.95 scoring average and five top-20 finishes on the year, highlighted by an 11th-place tie at the UCO Broncho Classic. Diaz shaved four strokes off her 84.10 average as a freshman and was one of the top-two Lion finishers in seven of A&M-Commerce's 10 events. She also set a new round career-low, posting a 73 in two different rounds on the season.
McCoy Remains Constant For A&M-Commerce
Sophomore Chelsea McCoy remained a constant in the Lion lineup, appearing in all 10 events on the year for A&M-Commerce and ranking third on the team with an 81.95 scoring average, improving from her 82.35 average as a freshman. McCoy was among the top three Lion finishers in nine tournaments in 2011-12 and had a pair of top-20 finishes, including tying for 16th overall at the Super San Diego Championship.
Jenkins Earns Spot in Lion Lineup
Sophomore Holly Jenkins earned her spot in the A&M-Commerce lineup in 2011-12, appearing in all 10 events after competing in four events as a freshman. Jenkins posted an 86.84 scoring average on the year, improving from her 88.63 mark in 2010-11, closing out the season with a career-best 36th-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships.
Green Sees Improvement In Sophomore Campaign
As with the rest of the Lions on the season, sophomore Haley Green saw improvement in 2011-12, competing in eight events for A&M-Commerce with an 84.53 scoring average, improving from her 85.09 average as a freshman. Green was the second Lion finisher at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate, shooting a 79 on her 20 th birthday before posting a career-low 77 in the Lone Star Conference Championships, finishing 21st overall.
