McMAHAN TIED FOR FIRST AFTER OPENING ROUND OF LADY BUFF INVITATIONAL

AMARILLO, Texas -- A&M-Commerce got its 2012-13 season off to a solid start as behind top-five showings from both Chantry McMahan and Ali Leasor, the Lions currently sit tied for sixth out of 14 teams after 18 holes of the 2012 West Texas A&M Lady Buff Stampede. A&M-Commerce shot a 32-over 320 in round one and sits within striking distance of a top-five finish.
McMahan, an All-Lone Star Conference second team selection in 2011-12, picked up right where she left off last season, posting a 1-over 73 through the opening 18 holes and is in a three-way tie for first place after round one. Leasor also came out firing in her first collegiate tournament, shooting a 3-over 75 and is tied for fifth in the individual standings.
Juniors Sara Diaz and Holly Jenkins enter Tuesday's final round tied for 51st in the individual standings with a 14-over 86. Fellow junior Chelsea McCoy rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard with a 19-over 91.
A&M-Commerce's 32-over 320 leaves them in a tie for sixth-place with Lone Star Conference rival Cameron after 18 holes. Both the Lions and Aggies sit just two strokes back of Colorado State-Pueblo (30-over 318) for a spot in the top-five and hold a slim one shot advantage on eighth-place Western Texas Community College (33-over 321) while sitting two shots ahead of host West Texas A&M (34-over 322).
Lubbock Christian leads the 14-team field after round one, posting a 16-over 304 and leading second-place Midwestern State (21-over 309) by five strokes. Newman (25-over 313), Wayland Baptist (28-over 316) and Colorado State-Pueblo round out the top-five.
A&M-Commerce looks to make its move Tuesday over the final 18 holes as the Lions will be paired with Western Texas Community College and the host Lady Buffs, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. A&M-Commerce will tee off from holes 8-11 in the shotgun start as full results from the tournament will be posted on LionAthletics.com as they become available.
