A&M-COMMERCE CLOSES OUT FALL SCHEDULE AT OKLAHOMA INTERCOLLEGIATE

LAWTON, Okla. – A&M-Commerce closed out the fall portion of its 2012-13 season with a ninth-place showing at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, finishing with a 57-over 633. The Lions posted a 34-over 322 in the final round, notching the fourth top-10 finish of the season.

A&M-Commerce was able to hold off Lone Star Conference rival Incarnate Word (58-over 634) to finish with the ninth-place showing after beginning the day in seventh overall. The Lions finished five shots back of eighth-place Angelo State (52-over 628) and 13 strokes behind seventh-place West Texas A&M (44-over 620).

Junior Chantry McMahan was the top A&M-Commerce finisher, posting a 13-over 157 to tie for 37th overall. She finished one stroke better than teammates Sara Diaz and Chelsea McCoy, who tied for 40th with a 14-over 158. McCoy posted a 6-over 78 in round one while Diaz had the best round of the Lions Tuesday, posting the 6-over 78 over the final 18 holes.

Junior Haley Green finished tied for 48th overall with a 16-over 160, finishing five strokes better than teammate Holly Jenkins' 21-over 165.

Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State captured the team title, shooting a 10-over 586 and besting second-place Tarleton State (15-over 591) by five strokes. Central Oklahoma (18-over 594) placed third with Newman (24-over 600) and Western Texas C.C. (30-over 606) rounding out the top-five.

With the five fall tournaments behind it, A&M-Commerce now sets its sights on the spring season and improving on the start to the 2012-13 season. The Lions notched four top-10 finishes, highlighted by a fifth-place showing at the Angelo State Concho River Classic. McMahan led the way for the Lions with a pair of top-20 finishes on the year, averaging 76.40 with Diaz sitting second with a 79.00 scoring average.

A&M-Commerce now takes a three-month hiatus for the winter, returning to action on February 10-11, 2013 at the World Golf Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
