The Hunt County African American Leadership Conference and the Rotary Club of Commerce have selected the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s soccer team as the Martin Luther King People of the Year.
"This is a great honor for our women's soccer program. The team worked very hard both on and off the field to achieve their accomplishments," said head coach Neil Piper.
The team will be recognized at the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Awards Celebration on Thursday, January 15 at 7 pm at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce.
In the fall,
the Lions tied a school record with 16 wins, advanced to the third
round of the NCAA Tournament runner up at the Lone Star Conference
Tournament, and were ranked No. 15 in the final NSCAA/adidas poll.
In addition, junior goalkeeper Taylor Jordan and junior forward
Meagan Lasley were named second and third team NSCAA/adidas
All-American, respectively.
