Lions Picked to Finish Fourth in LSC Preseason Poll
The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll announced on Thursday.
Central Oklahoma earned 21 first-place votes and totaled 290 points to take the top spot ahead of Midwestern State (1, 255) and West Texas A&M (4, 237) in the poll voted on by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives.
UCO advanced to the Midwest Regional final in 2007 and went undefeated through conference play with a 10-0 record to win the regular season title.
A&M-Commerce claimed one first-place vote and 203 points after finishing in a tie for third place in 2007. The Lions finished the season with a 6-2-2 record in its last ten games before falling to UCO in the LSC semifinals.
Ten letterwinners return for A&M-Commerce in 2008, including second team all-NSCAA region performer Meagan Lasley and three-time all-LSC selection Melissa DoRemus.
The 2008 season gets underway on Thursday, August 28, when the Lions host Drury at 4 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
