A&M-Commerce Posts 8-0 Win Over Southwestern Oklahoma State

Three different players - Lacy Alexander, Chelsey Haight (pictured) and Meagan Lasley - each scored twice in an 8-0 rout by the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team over Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.

A&M-Commerce (7-1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 45 minutes as they out shot the Bulldogs by a 22-0 margin. It was not until a curling shot into the upper left corner of the net from right by Haight in the 16th minute that put the Lions on the board. The Lions added to the lead on the third goal of the season on a header by junior Whitney Hancock in the 27th minute from Sarah Reed on a corner kick.

In the loss, Southwestern Oklahoma State (2-6) was able to get off just one shot.

An A&M-Commerce attack in the second half added six more goals in the final 45 minutes. 58 seconds into the second half, senior Melissa DoRemus took a low crossing pass from Lasley for the goal and 3-0 advantage. Alexander added her first of two goals when she converted on a cross from freshman Emma Stubblefield from close range to extend the margin to 4-0.

After a handball negated an opportunity, nearly 30 seconds later, Haight found the back of the net for the second time in the match in the 69th minute on a long strike from the center to the left and past the SWOSU keeper.

In the final minutes of the contest, Lasley scored twice separated by a little over three minutes for her 10th and 11th goals of the season, respectively. In the 82nd minute, Lasley hit a shot with her left foot from center of the box and in the 86th minute, she used her other foot from the right side to the top for the goal and stretch the margin to 7-0. Alexander added the final goal of the afternoon when she took a long shot from the center and placed it in the top left corner.

Next up for the Lions is a contest on Sunday against Lone Star Conference preseason favorite Central Oklahoma at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Complex at noon.
