Lions Fall to Central Oklahoma, 1-0

Central Oklahoma midfielder Whitney Craft picked up a loose ball in a scramble in front of the box for an unassisted goal in the 69th minute in a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday afternoon in Commerce, Texas.

The two teams had battled the 12 mph winds at the A&M-Commerce soccer field until Craft scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Central Oklahoma (7-2-2, 2-0 LSC) extended its Lone Star Conference regular season winning streak to 25 games in the win. The Bronchos outshot the Lions by a 16-15 margin as goalkeeper Samantha Meek made six saves and Jenny Racicot had a team-high and match-high five shots.

A&M-Commerce (7-2-1, 1-1 LSC) saw its five-match winning streak come to an end with the loss. The Lions nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute on a header attempt by senior Melissa DoRemus that was saved by Meek. An opportunity for an equalizer came in the 73rd minute on a left-footed shot by junior Meagan Lasley; however, again Rusk made the save for the Bronchos.

Next, the Lions wrap up its five-match home stand with a contest on Friday at 4 p.m. against Midwestern State. The match is the home contest before the final two home contests of the season, Oct. 24 (vs. Abilene Christian) and Oct. 26 (vs. Angelo State).
