Lasley Records Hat Trick in 3-1 Win Over Eastern New Mexico
A hat trick by junior Meagan Lasley led the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Eastern New Mexico on Friday afternoon in Portales, New Mexico.
A&M-Commerce (9-2, LSC 3-1) found itself behind 1-0 early in the second half before the Mesquite, Texas native scored three times in a 10-minute stretch in the win. For Lasley, it is her third game in 2008 where she has found the back of the net at least three times in a contest. Earlier in the year, she recorded four goals and assisted on two more in a 9-0 rout of Texas A&M-International (Sept. 20) and three goals against Harding (Sept. 9).
Eastern New Mexico (8-7, LSC 2-4) got on the board first in the 51st minute when Samantha Lawrence scored her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a crossing pass from Kimberly Luna.
Lasley led the Lions back with the equalizer in the 60th minute when she dribbled it in from midfield before firing a shot to the back of the net from 17 yards out. She put the Lions ahead on a header in the 62nd minute when A&M-Commerce converted on a corner kick from junior Sarah Reed. With the one-goal advantage, Lasley made it a hat trick with an unassisted goal at the 67:36 mark using a pivot to get away from two ENMU defenders for the final score.
A&M-Commerce is now 4-0 all-time in its meetings against the Zias. The three-goal effort by Lasley gives her 37 points (14 goals, 9 assists) for the season and matches the fourth highest total in a single season in school history. For her career, she has 71 points and moves into fourth place all-time in the A&M-Commerce record book.
Next up for the Lions is a contest against West Texas A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lady Buffs are currently No. 22 in the nation and No. 3 in the latest NSCAA/adidas® regional rankings and A&M-Commerce is No. 7.
