Three First Half Goals Lead A&M-Commerce Past Angelo State, 4-1
Three first half goals led the
Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team to a 4-1 win
over Angelo State on Sunday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce
Soccer Complex.
A&M-Commerce (12-2-1, 6-1 LSC) got on the board on its first
shot of the contest when junior Meagan Lasley
scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season when she picked up
a loose ball from teammates Jordan McCarty and
Chelsey Haight past the ASU goalkeeper.
Angelo State (10-5-3, 4-2-2 LSC)
entered the contest, having giving up just three first half
goals. The Rambelles saw that total double against the Lions
who have now outscored their opponents
by a 19-4 margin in the first half.
The Lions scored two more within 43 seconds of each other as
Haight took a breakaway to the lower right of the goal on a pass
from senior Melissa DoRemus in the 7th minute.
Junior Whitney Hancock scored her second goal of
the weekend when she converted on a corner kick from Sarah
Reed in the 9th minute.
"We had a fast start," said head coach Neil Piper
(pictured above), "when we get the lead, we are tough to
beat."
The Rambelles got on the board in the 51st minute on a 28-yard
free kick Megan Schafer after an A&M-Commerce to cut the Lions
lead to 3-1.
A&M-Commerce extended its lead when Lasley beat the Angelo
State defense and goalkeeper to the lower right of the goal for her
second goal of the the contest in the 71st minute for the final
margin.
For Lasley, it is her fifth multi-goal game of the season and
Taylor Jordan made six saves for her ninth win of the
season.
Next, the Lions have three road matches in the next seven days
beginning with a 4 pm tilt on Tuesday at Texas Woman's in Denton.
