Lions and Texas Woman's Play to 0-0 Tie
The No. 24 Texas A&M
University-Commerce women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie
against host Texas Woman's on Tuesday afternoon in Denton.
The Lions (12-2-2) outshot the Pioneers by a 17-to-7 margin,
including a decisive 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
A&M-Commerce freshman Jordan McCarty
(pictured) led the attack with five shots, including three
on goal.
"We worked hard but we could not finish in the final third of
the field," said Lions' head coach Neil Piper.
"They (TWU) played real tough defense and were looking for a point
and they got it."
McCarty and Lions' teammates Lacy Alexander and
Whitney Hancock each got off shots in the first
half that forced the TWU defense to rise to the occasion. After a
7-3 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes, the Lions outshot
the Pioneers by a 10-4 count for the remainder of the contest. In
addition to the advantage in shots, the Lions had 10 corner kicks
compared to none for the Pioneers.
Texas Woman's goalkeeper Aly Vincent-Evans made nine saves and her
A&M-Commerce counterpart Taylor Jordan made
three as both played the entire 110:00.
Earlier in the day marked the debut of the Lions in the
NSCAA/adidas national rankings at the No. 22 spot. A&M-Commerce
moved into the No. 3 spot in the South Central regional
rankings.
The Lions will close out the regular season on Thursday at
Northeastern State at 3 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla. and on Sunday at
East Central in Ada, Oklahoma at 2
p.m.
