Texas A&M-Commerce Advances to LSC Tournament Championship Game

Second Team All-Lone Star Conference selection Chelsey Haight (pictured on right by Jeremy Enlow) had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win for No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce over Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

Just 2:45 into the contest, A&M-Commerce got on the board first after a corner kick by Sarah Reed was settled by the Lions attack and Haight found first team all-Lone Star Conference senior midfielder Melissa DoRemus, who went to the lower right for the early 1-0 advantage.

The Lions extended its lead when a shot from the right side by Haight was dropped by MSU goalkeeper and rolled past the goal line to extend the advantage to 2-0.

With two first half goals, the Lions are outscoring their opponents by a 24-5 margin in the first 45 minutes.

First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection junior Meagan Lasley became the school’s single-season leader in points with a goal in the 90th minute from seven yards out. The goal is her 19th of the season to go along with 11 assists for 49 points, moving past Emily Bruggemann, who scored 47 points (20 goals, 7 assists) in 2002. The Lions are now 9-0-1 when Lasley scores a goal on the 2008 season.

Honorable Mention All-LSC goalkeeper junior Taylor Jordan had her fourth shutout of the season, facing 10 shots and making five saves for the victorious Lions.

The win raises the Lions record to 14-2-3 and the ninth win in program history in the LSC Tournament. The Mustangs of Midwestern State fall to 14-7, who saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end.

A&M-Commerce advances to the finals of the LSC Tournament where they will face host West Texas A&M (No. 1 seed), who defeated Central Oklahoma in the other semifinal by a 5-1 margin on Sunday at 12 noon.
