Lions Picked to Finish Second in the Lone Star Conference
With the return of 17 letterwinners and nine starters from a team that advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team was picked to finish second in the Lone Star Conference according to the league’s 2009 preseason poll released Thursday.
The Lions received 11 first-place votes and will be led by senior Meagan Lasley, who was picked as the preseason LSC Offensive Player of the Year. She enters her senior campaign tied for second all time with 32 goals and her 22 assists ranks tied fourth in school history. Lasley set the single-season school record for points with 52 (20 goals and 12 assists) to earn third-team NSCAA/adidas All-American, first-team all-LSC and second-team Daktronics South Central All-Region Region honors.
West Texas A&M was picked to win the league with 14 first-place votes and behind the Lions were Central Oklahoma was third with three first-place votes and Midwestern State was fourth. Followed by Abilene Christian finished fifth, followed by Angelo State, Northeastern State, Texas Woman’s, Eastern New Mexico, East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma.
Lasley and the Lions will begin the
2009 season against Mars Hill in Greeneville, Tennessee at 5 p.m.
on August 28th
