Soccer Continues Preparations for 2009 Season

The 2009 season opener for the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team is a week away. A&M-Commerce returns 16 letterwinners from a squad that advanced to the championship game of the LSC Tournament and the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008.

Preparations for the upcoming season has veteran head coach Neil Piper looking forward to the 2009 campaign.

"Preseason is going well. We have the usual bumps and bruises, but overall I think we are going to be ready. We have a lot of competition for places on the team so it is making the workouts really intense. We are solid at every position. This season has the potential to be really special," said Piper.

Preseason prognosticators see the potential in the Lions, as well. In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll, the Lions are ranked No. 22. In the Lone Star Conference preseason poll voted on by the coaches, media and sports information directors, the Lions were picked to finish second behind West Texas A&M.

Tickets to all home A&M-Commerce soccer contests can be purchased online at www.lionathleticstickets.com(.) The home opener is on Tuesday, September 1st at 7:30 pm against Dallas Baptist.

The first match of the season is on Friday, August 28th at 5 pm against Mars Hill in Greeneville, Tennessee.
