A goal in the 12th minute by senior Whitney Hancock (pictured to the right) led the No. 22 Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over host Tusculum on Sunday in Greeneville, Tennessee.

A&M-Commerce (2-0) goalkeeper Taylor Jordan (pictured below) recorded the shutout as she faced 11 shots and made five saves for her seventh career shutout and first in 2009. She begins the 2009 season with 135 minutes of shutout play after playing the opening 45 minutes in Friday’s 5-0 win over Mars Hill. Tusculum (1-1) managed to out shoot A&M-Commerce by an 11-9 margin in the loss. Lions’ sophomore Devon Herrman had a match-high three shots in the win.

The goal by Hancock came when she won a challenge towards midfield before firing a shot that curled past the Tusculum goalkeeper Rachael Jennings for the goal.

The Lions will host Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first-ever night game at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field, which is located behind Berry Hall. Admission for the game for adults is $5, students is $3 and for A&M-Commerce students it is FREE.
