A&M-Commerce Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener Over Dallas Baptist, 4-1
Sophomore Devon Herrman (pictured to the right) scored twice for the No. 16 Texas A&M University-Commerce in a 4-1 win over Dallas Baptist at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field. It was the first Lions' first game under their new lights (pictured below) and their home opener.
A&M-Commerce (3-0) junior Chelsey Haight put
the Lions on the board when she fired a shot to the lower left part
of the goal for the early 1-0 advantage at the eighth minute.
Nearly 13 minutes later, senior Meagan Lasley
scored her second her second goal of the season on a header after a
pass from senior Lacy Alexander to extend the
margin to 2-0
.
The Lions added to their lead when Hermann scored her first of two goals after a centering pass from Haight that she took to the lower left of the goal to give A&M-Commerce a 3-0 advantage.
In the second half, Dallas Baptist (1-1) spoiled the shutout early in the second half on a goal by Hope Adams. The shot by Adams from nearly 25 yards out sailed over the A&M-Commerce goalkeeper and into the goal for the Patriots.
A&M-Commerce came back
to score its final tally of the contest on a long curling shot over
for the second goal of the evening by Hermann that sailed over the
head of the DBU keeper in the 65th minute.
In the
victory, A&M-Commerce out shot Dallas Baptist by a 16-to-12
margin and a 9-to-6 spread on shots on goal. Lions’
goalkeeper Taylor Jordan made five saves for her
second win of the season.
Next
up for the Lions is a 7:30 pm tilt against Texas
A&M-International and earlier in the day at 1 pm, West Texas
A&M will face Central Missouri. The Lions will host UCM in a
rematch of last year’s NCAA Second Round on Sunday at 1:30 pm
and Texas A&M-International will take on West Texas A&M at
11 a.m. on Sunday.
