Lasley, McCarty combine for five goals as Lions down Texas A&M-International, 8-0

Senior forward Meagan Lasley scored three goals within a five minute span in the first half, and sophomore midfielder Jordan McCarty added two more to push the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions past the Texas A&M-International Dustdevils, 8-0, on Friday night at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.

McCarty opened the scoring with a goal 13:09 into the game before Chelsey Haight gave A&M-Commerce a 2-0 advantage with a shot into the back right corner of the net off an assist from Lasley.

Lasley followed with three straight goals for her fifth career hat trick a nd McCarty added her second of the first half as the Lions took a 6-0 lead into the break.

A&M-Commerce freshman forward Katelyn Ross extended the lead in the second half with a goal to the top right corner on a pass from Haight for her first goal as a Lion. The Lions closed out the scoring as freshman forward Paige Vincent found the back of the next with a goal on an assist from Chelsea Roy.

Lions' sophomore goalkeeper Randi Hafele picked up her first shutout of the 2009 season and also the first of her career. Hafele faced 11 shots and made five saves on the evening.

Texas A&M-International was led by Sasha Scott, who tallied three shots with one on goal.

The Lions improve to 4-0 on the season and will look to make it five straight victories to start the year with a 1:30 p.m. start against Central Missouri on Sunday at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
