No. 16 Lions Fall to Central Missouri, 1-0

A goal by Sharaya Sidebottom of Central Missouri in the 37th minute led the visiting Jennies to a 1-0 win over No. 16 Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Complex.

A&M-Commerce (4-1) found itself behind for the first time on the goal by Sidebottom and an aggressive attack in the final 45 minutes by the Lions was kept off the scoreboard in the loss.

Central Missouri (1-2-1) avenged a 2008 NCAA Second Round loss with the win. Sidebottom took a centering pass from teammate Cara Hennahene and fired a shot to the lower left and past the A&M-Commerce goalkeeper for the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Bramvakis faced six shots and made a save in the shutout victory.

The Lions had three opportunities in the second half including a shot by A&M-Commerce senior Meagan Lasley that hit the crossbar in the 77th minute and sophomore Devon Herrman had an attempt in the 80th minute that sailed high to preserve the shutout. Lasley led the Lions attack with three shots.

Next, A&M-Commerce will look to return to its winning ways on Thursday with a matchup against Harding in Searcy, Arkansas at 4 p.m.
