Chelsey Haight and Whitney Hancock Score Twice in 6-0 Win Over Harding
Texas A&M University-Commerce senior Whitney Hancock and junior Chelsey Haight each scored twice in a 6-0 win for the Lions’ women’s soccer team over Harding on Thursday night in Searcy, Arkansas.
A&M-Commerce (5-1) got on the board four times in the first half en route to the Lions’ fourth shutout in 2009.
Harding (0-3-1) was held to just 10 shots, five in each half, including five from Paola Eusse in the defeat.
Haight scored her two goals nearly 10 minutes apart, in the 11th minute, she found the back of the next on a shot from 25 yards out to the right side of the goal to give A&M-Commerce an early 1-0 advantage. In the 21st minute, she took a pass from sophomore Devon Herrman and fired a shot on the left side from 15 yards out to give the Lions’ a 2-0 advantage.
A little over a minute later, A&M-Commerce converted on a corner kick by junior Megan Monroe, who connected with senior Lacy Alexander for her first goal of the 2009 season and to give the Lions’ a 3-0 lead. The Lions extended its margin to 5-0 by way of a pair of headers. First, Meagan Lasley scored her sixth goal of the season in the 37th minute after receiving a pass from Haight. Next, the Lions capitalized on another corner kick when Hancock scored on her first of two goals on a header in the 64th minute. She added her final goal in the 84th minute when she took a pair of one touches on a set piece after passes from Lasley and senior Jennifer Alvarado to close out the scoring.
A&M-Commerce senior goalkeeper Taylor Jordan recorded a shutout and made six saves in the win for the Lions.
