Lions Fall to No. 25 Incarnate Word, 2-1
The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to host No. 25 Incarnate Word on Friday night in San Antonio.
A&M-Commerce (5-2) found itself behind early on a goal in the 11th minute by the host Cardinals' Mallory Smith. Seven-different Lions had a shot in the contest, including a team-high three from sophomore Devon Herrman. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Jordan made seven saves as she faced 19 shots, including 10 on goal.
Incarnate Word (6-1-1) was led by Lianah Flores, who had nine shots including the game-winning goal in the 74th minute.
The Lions managed to get the equalizer early into the second half as senior Meagan Lasley (picture by Jared Horn) scored her team leading eighth goal of the season when she took a loose ball and over UIW goalkeeper Tori Puentes.
The two teams would exchange shots over the next 25 minutes until Flores capitalized on her eighth of nine shots on the evening. She took a crossing pass from teammate Cassidy Ballantyne in the 74th minute for a header goal and eventual gamewinner.
The Lions were held without a shot for the remainder of the contest. Next, A&M-Commerce will play its second of three-straight matches against ranked teams as they take on St. Edward's on Sunday at 1 pm in Austin.
