A&M-Commerce Falls to No. 21 St. Edward's, 3-0
Three first half goals by No. 21
St. Edward’s led the host Hilltoppers to a 3-0 win over Texas
A&M University-Commerce on Sunday afternoon in Austin.
St. Edward’s (5-1-1) managed to outshoot the Lions by an
18-to-1 margin and Janae Averett scored a goal and assisted on the
other two in the win.
A&M-Commerce (5-3) has dropped three-consecutive decisions.
Goalkeepers Taylor Jordan and Randi
Hafele combined to make nine saves in the loss.
Sara Singleton of SEU got the Hilltoppers on the board in the fifth
minute when she picked up a rebound from Averett for the 1-0
advantage. St. Edward’s extended its lead to 2-0 when Emily
Arnold fired a shot to the near post for the goal.
An A&M-Commerce red card left the Lions short handed in the
26th minute and the Hilltoppers capitalized when Averett out ran
the A&M-Commerce defense for the final goal.
The Lions will return to action on Friday, Sept. 29 against Texas
Woman’s at 7 pm in the Lone Star Conference opener.
