Lions Post 2-1 Win Over Angelo State

Senior Meagan Lasley took on a few defenders before breaking loose in the 84th minute for her team-leading 10th goal of the season to lead Texas A&M University-Commerce to a 2-1 win over host Angelo State on Friday afternoon.

The Mesquite, Texas native also was involved in the Lions' first goal when she was fouled by an Angelo State defender to set the stage for senior Whitney Hancock. The Bedford, Texas native converted on the penalty kick for her third goal of the season in the ninth minute.

For Lasley, it is her second-straight and her third game-winning goal of the season as the Lions raise their overall record to 8-5 and a 3-2 mark in the Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State (8-6, 2-4 LSC) rallied after the goal by Hancock to get the equalizer in the 70th minute when Ashley Brown took a pass from Natalie Goczoll to tie the contest at 1.

In the win, the Lions managed to out shoot the Rams by a 22 to 14 margin, including a 11 to 9 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Chelsey Haight led the attack with six shots and Lasley added five more. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Jordan picked up the win for her fifth win on the season to go along with three more saves.

Next up for the Lions is a 1 pm contest on Sunday against Abilene Christian in Abilene.
