A&M-Commerce Falls to Abilene Christian, 2-1
A goal in the 82nd minute by Krysta Grimm of Abilene Christian led the host Wildcats to a 2-1 win over Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Abilene Christian (10-4-1, 5-1-1 LSC) got on the board first after a scoreless opening 45 minutes. Lyndsey Womack scored her fourth goal of the season after receiving a pass from Lexi Stirling in the 49th minute.
The Wildcats kept control of the ball throughout the contest and out shot the Lions by a 17 to 4 margin.
A&M-Commerce (8-6, 3-3 LSC) managed to get the equalizer a little over eight minutes after the first ACU goal. Junior Chelsey Haight scored her sixth goal of the season on an empty net in the 57th minute to tie the contest at 1.
Haight and senior Whitney Hancock looked to put the Lions ahead down the stretch; however, the ACU defense withstood the attack. Sophomore goalkeeper Randi Hafele made four saves on the afternoon for the Lions.
With thee game tied at 1, Grimm scored the game-winning goal on a header after a free kick and pass from teammate Alyson Thomas.
Next, the Lions will close out
the home portion of its schedule on Friday at 7 pm against East
Central and Sunday at noon against Northeastern State.
