Lions Fall in Regular Season Finale to SWOSU, 2-1

The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s soccer team lost by a 2-1 margin to host Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma on Sunday.

A&M-Commerce (10-7-1, 5-5 LSC) senior Meagan Lasley scored her 15th goal of the season in the 66th minute after taking a pass from sophomore Emma Stubblefield.

Southwestern Oklahoma State (7-10-2, 3-5-2 LSC) got on the board early in the first half when Stephanie Kneedler scored from in close at the 21:56 mark for the 1-0 advantage. The Bulldogs had three more chances that were saved by A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Taylor Jordan in the first half.

SWOSU extended its lead to 2-0 when Korey Hearn took a pass from Josie Price at the top of the box from 10 yards out for the goal in the 52nd minute. The Lions defense held the Bulldogs without a shot for the remainder of the contest.

Opportunities for the equalizer after the Lasley score in the 66th minute came up short as the Lions had four shots sail wide and away from the goal.

The Bulldogs out shot the Lions by a slim 12 to 11 margin in the win. SWOSU out shot A&M-Commerce by a 9 to 2 margin in the first half only for the Lions to comeback for a 9 to 3 advantage in the final 45 minutes.

Next, the Lions will head to the Lone Star Conference Tournament, where they will take on No. 3 seed Texas Woman's on Wednesday at 6 pm in Canyon, Texas. A&M-Commerce enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed.
