A&M-Commerce Soccer Falls in Penalty Kick Shootout to Texas Woman's
The No. 6 seed Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team saw its season end on Thursday with a loss on penalty kicks to No. 3 seed Texas Woman's in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Canyon, Texas.
The two teams played a scoreless 110 minutes until the game had to be decided in a penalty kick shootout.
The Pioneers' (8-8-2) Halla Ali, Natalie Holovach, Jacqueline Horner and Christine Mendoza converted on their opportunities to advance TWU into Friday's second round against No. 2 seed Central Oklahoma.
A&M-Commerce (10-8-1) sophomore Devon Herrman was the only
player to make her attempt for the Lions.
The Lions out shot TWU by a 13-to-10 margin in the loss. Junior Megan Monroe (pictured to the left by Jeremy Enlow)had a pair of opportunities in the first half and senior Whitney Hancock had a header attempt in the 106th minute of the second overtime that saw TWU goalkeeper Nori Morgan come up with the clutch save on each threat. A&M-Commerce senior goalkeeper Taylor Jordan closed out her A&M-Commerce career with six saves.
The contest also marks the end of the career for seniors Lacy Alexander, Jennifer Alvarado, Whitney Hancock and Meagan Lasley.
