LIONS FALL TO ANGELO STATE, 2-0, IN LSC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS

Angelo State scored in each half to defeat the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Thursday in Wichita Falls, Texas.

A&M-Commerce (8-7-3) nearly got on the board in the opening minutes of the contest on with four corner kicks in the first 10 minutes.

Angelo State (13-5-1) capitalized on its first shot of the contest when Ashley Brown found the back of the net. The forward took advantage of an open net, following a free kick to build an early 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute.

In the second half, the Rambelles came out attacking with eight shots to none for the Lions. The ninth came when Brandie DeBacker added to the ASU lead in the 88th minute. DeBacker fired a shot past the A&M-Commerce goalkeeper to put the Rambelles in front by a 2-0 margin.

The loss ends the season for the Lions and the win sends Angelo State on to the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinals, where they will face No. 2 seeded Abilene Christian on Friday at 5 p.m.
