SAN ANTONIO, Texas – An Amber Guenther penalty kick goal in the 69th minutes was all the Cardinals needed to beat the Lions on Friday night in San Antonio.

The loss drops the Lions to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in LSC play. With the 'W' the Cardinals sweep the Lions in the regular season and improve to 5-5 overall and 5-3 in LSC play.

Incarnate Word registered the first chance just under three minutes in when Katie Miller put a shot on goal but goalkeeper Tracey Rogers made the save. A&M-Commerce got a corner kick in the 12th minute but we called for offside after and we unable to get a shot off. In the 25th minute Anitra Wright played a corner in and Callie Annett got a shot away but it was wide of goal. A couple minutes later Wright got her own chance but her shot was also wide. Just before the end of the half in the 43rd minute Brionna Minde had a header go high.  

Both teams exchanged corner kicks in the opening five minutes of the second with neither bring a shot on goal. Eva Brutto tried to put the Lions up but her shot went wide in the 59th minute. Five minutes later Wright has another opportunity but again pushed the shot wide. In the 69th minute Allie Burks committed a foul inside the box, which gave Guenther the penalty kick opportunity. Guenther capitalized on the chance and put the shot past Rogers for her sixth goal on the season. Just under two minutes later Wright had a chance but Cardinal goalkeeper, Heather Kowalik, made the save. With less than ten minutes left Anitra Wright had one last chance to tie the game but the shot was wide.   

The Lions return to action on Sunday when they continue the weekend road trip with a game in San Angelo against Angelo State at 1:00 p.m.
