CANYON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference has released its 2012 postseason awards with a quartet of Lions pulling in All-Conference honors.
A&M-Commerce was highlighted by Brionna Minde, being named the Academic Player of the Year, with Eva Brutto being named first team All-Lone Star Conference. Anitra Wright was a second team All-LSC selection while Callie Annett joined Minde on the Academic All-Lone Star Conference team.
Minde was selected as the best of the best among her peers in the classroom, earning the first Academic Player of the Year honor of her career. She was an Academic All-LSC selection in 2011 as well as first team All-LSC. This season, Minde led the Lions in both points (13) and assists (7), leading the Lone Star Conference in assists and sitting sixth in points. She ranked second in goals (3) while starting all 17 games for A&M-Commerce.
Brutto tabbed the first All-Conference honor of her career after serving as team captain and starting all 17 games on the season for the Lions. She tallied two goals and two assists on the season, setting career-bests in both. In addition, she proved to be the key member of the A&M-Commerce defensive backfield while serving as an on-field leader for the Lions.
Wright was one of the bright spots for A&M-Commerce in her freshman season, leading the Lions in goals (5), including a pair of game-winners, while adding an assist to sit second on the team in points (11). She ranked ninth in the Lone Star Conference in points and tied for seventh in goals while sitting ninth in goals per game (0.29) and 10th in points per game (0.65).
Annett stepped up her play in 2012, notching a goal and an assist while also helping to anchor the Lion defense. She notched her first career assist on her sister Cadie's game-winning goal in overtime against Texas Woman's, then had her first career goal in the 3-0 win over Eastern New Mexico. She and Minde were two of the 12 players on the All-Academic team.
The 2012 season culminated in a disappointing 5-12 mark for A&M-Commerce as the Lions failed to reach the Lone Star Conference tournament for the first time since 2002. But thoughts have already turned to the 2013 season as the Lions have no seniors on this year's roster, bringing back an experienced lineup with a handful of key players returning from injury as well.
