2012 NSCAA All-South Central Region Selections
COMMERCE, Texas -- A&M-Commerce juniors Eva Brutto and Brionna Minde have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Central Region third team, announced by the organization. The honor is the second All-Region selection for Minde after being named a second team Daktronics All-Region selection in 2011 and the first for Brutto.
Brutto was named a first team All-Lone Star Conference selection at defense after serving as team captain and starting all 17 games on the season for the Lions. She tallied two goals and two assists on the season, setting career-bests in both. In addition, she proved to be the key member of the A&M-Commerce defensive backfield while serving as an on-field leader for the Lions.
Minde was selected as the best of the best among her peers in the classroom, earning the first Academic Player of the Year honor of her career. She was an Academic All-LSC selection in 2011 as well as first team All-LSC. This season, Minde led the Lions in both points (13) and assists (7), leading the Lone Star Conference in assists and sitting sixth in points. She ranked second in goals (3) while starting all 17 games for A&M-Commerce.
With the selections of Brutto and Minde, head coach Neil Piper has now had 18 of his players garner 25 All-Region honors from the NSCAA as the duo joins Stacy Carr (1999) as third-team selections. It marks the first NSCAA All-Region selection for the Lions since Meagan Lasley was a second team honoree in 2009.
The Lion duo were among the six Lone Star Conference selections to the third team, joining West Texas A&M's Rebecca Peth (D), Angelo State's Lauren Carnes (M), Incarnate Word's Sydney Solomon (F) and Texas Woman's Brittany Martin (F). In all, 10 LSC players were named All-South Central Region, including one on the first team and four on the second team.
