LA'SHARA JEFFERSON PLACES FOURTH IN DISCUS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

2011 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships Results

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Senior La'Shara Jefferson made the final throw of her collegiate career count. Sitting in ninth-place with one attempt remaining, Jefferson put together a 45.63 meter performance, moving into fourth in the women's discus at the 2011 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships at Cal State Stanislaus.

Jefferson, who finished second at the Lone Star Conference Championships, posted a 40.55 meter throw on her first attempt, followed by a foul on her second. Her third throw was solid, checking in at 42.30 meters, but was followed by another foul and a 41.00 meter throw. But the final attempt of her collegiate career was a memorable one, hurling the 45.63 meter throw and moving into fourth in the standings.

It was the highest finish for Jefferson at the NCAA Championships, who qualified in each of her four seasons at Commerce. She improved seven spots from her previous best finish - an 11th-place showing in 2009 - as her 45.63 mark was her third longest throw of the season. She became the second Lion to finish in the top-10 at nationals in as many days, joining teammate Starasia Childs, who placed ninth in the triple jump Friday.
