SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A&M-Commerce wrapped up two days of competition at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio and built on its early season success, seeing 10 different Lions finish among the top-five in eight different events.
The top competitor for A&M-Commerce was Ashley Ross, who was solid in each of the throws events, placing first in the discus (38.83m), third in the shot put (11.57m) and fifth in the hammer throw (32.26m). The Lions also had a handful of top performers in the long jump, led by Whitney Hargraves' third-place finish (5.49m), just 0.01 meter further than fourth-place finisher Breana Anderson-Burton.
In the sprints, Angela Reed placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.98, less than a second better than third-place finisher Jakesia King's 25.70. Tyler Cottingham notched a third-place finish in the 400 meter run, recording a time of 1:01.91, while Crystal Harris logged a runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a 1:09.12 showing.
All three of A&M-Commerce's relay teams had respectable showings, led by a runner-up finish by the 4x100 meter relay squad (47.94). The Lions placed third in both the 4x200 meter relay (1:43.49) and the 4x400 meter relay (4:08.68) with Aysha Moultrie and Vanessa Jackson running a leg in each race.
