Texas State Bobcat Classic Final Results

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- A&M-Commerce was able to get one final meet of competition in before the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships as three Lions place among the top-10 at the Texas State Bobcat Classic.

Competing against a handful of Division I teams from across the state of Texas, A&M-Commerce had a pair of Lions record season-best marks. Vanessa Jackson finished ninth in the 400 meter dash, notching a season-best time of 56.68, shaving nearly three seconds off the previous season-best time. She was joined by Tierra Hill, who also placed ninth in the triple jump, posting a career-best leap of 11.69 meters, provisionally qualifying for nationals in the process.

Whitney Hargraves just missed posting top-10 finishes in a pair of events, placing 11th in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.62 meters, falling a foot short of provisionally qualifying for nationals as well. She also placed 12th in the long jump with a mark of 5.50 meters.

In the throws, Ashley Ross was the third Lion to post a top-10 finish, placing 10th in the discus with a hurl of 38.71 meters. Abigail Leaupepe-Tele placed 11th in the shot put with a mark of 12.83 meters, her second-best showing of the season.

A&M-Commerce now sets its sights on the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships with the added bonus of getting to run on its home track for the conference meet. Memorial Stadium will serve as the host venue with the top athletes in the LSC descending on Commerce May 3-5 vying for a shot at the Division II National Championships.
