LIONS SHOW WELL AT SEASON OPENING LION SPRING INVITATIONAL

Commerce, Texas – The A&M-Commerce women track and field team opened up the season with an great showing at the Lion Spring Invitational. The Lions recorded numerous finishes in the top three of each heat of events throughout the day.

The Lions finished first and second in the discus with Ashley Ross (44.51m) edging out Abigail Leaupepe-Tele (41.62m). Ross also won the hammer throw with a long of 42.38 meters besting teammate Kabrin Hartfield by five feet.  Rachel Robertson recorded a second place finish in the women's high jump with a height cleared of 1.5 meters.

Leaupepe-Tele improved on her finish in the discus by winning the Shot Put with a through of 12.77 meters. Hartfield placed fourth less than two feet behind Abagail. Leau-Peptele also won the javelin with a mark of 31.26 meters just one meter better than Ross who finished second.

Jakeisa King had the third fastest time in the women's 100m sprint posting a 12.61. Vanessa Jackson had second fastest 400m with a 58.66. Tyler Cotingham also recorded a top three finish in the 800m with 2:34.69 time. Tori Lenz-Selvera and Caroline Cotsakis each recorded second place finishes. Lenz-Selvera had hers in the 1500m and Cotsakis had hers in the 5000m. 

The 4X400m relay team of Crystal Harris, Brikel Bailey, Shunterrical Lamb and Vanessa Jackson took second overall with a time of 4:07.72.

The women take to the track next weekend at the Tarleton State Invitational in Stephenville, Texas.
