Oberle, Addison push Texas A&M-Commerce past SOSU in LSC opener

Alyssa Oberle recorded a career-high 22 kills and Amy Addison added a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions past the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm, 27-29, 25-21, 25-10, 20-25, 15-12, in their Lone Star Conference opener on Thursday night.
A&M-Commerce improves to 7-5 for the season and 1-0 in LSC play, while the Savage Storm drop to 10-5 and 0-1.
Perla Faudoa collected 51 assists and Lauren Flynn chipped in 19 digs to help the Lions avenge an early season, 3-0, loss to SOSU.
After being edged in the first set,
A&M-Commerce responded with six kills from Ballard and four
from Oberle to tie the match at one apiece. The Lions trailed until
Ballard tied the set at 12 with a kill. SOSU followed with a 5-2
run, but A&M-Commerce answered by scoring 11 out of the next 15
points.
Addison and Oberle each slammed five kills in the third and helped the Lions put the set out of reach with an 8-0 run midway through the game and a 4-0 spurt to close it. The Savage Storm roared back in the fourth as Jordan Parks recorded four kills and Crystal Trussel and Destiny Brown each added three to tie the match at two after four games.
A&M-Commerce jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the fifth and four more kills from Oberle, including the one the iced the game, pushed the Lions to their fourth win in five games.
Brown led four players in double-digit kills with 15 for the Savage Storm. Parks recorded 13 kills and Lunden Azuara added 12. Lindsay Ellisor finished with 54 assists.
The Lions will look to stay undefeated in conference play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup against East Central in Ada, Okla.
