Texas A&M-Commerce defeats East Central to remain unbeaten in LSC play

Alyssa Oberle collected 17 kills and five digs to keep the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions undefeated in Lone Star Conference play with a 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 27-25 victory over East Central on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions improved to 8-5 and 2-0 in conference play, while East Central falls to 4-8 and 0-1.
Amy Addison recorded 11 kills and a .360 hitting percentage, Rachel Lance added 10 and Lauren Flynn chipped in a game-high 17 digs to lead the Lions to their fifth win in six games.
East Central took the first set from A&M-Commerce with the help of four kills each from Jacqueline Sparks and Holly Hicks. The Tigers leaped out to an early 7-3 advantage, but the Lions fought back to tie the game at eight on a kill from Lance. After 15 ties throughout the rest of the set, Hicks slammed a kill to give the Tigers the lead.
Trailing again early in the second set, A&M-Commerce answered with a 9-3 run to tie the game at 13. Ties and lead changes exchanged until Oberle tallied a kill to break an 18-18 tie, and the Lions held on tie the match at one.
Oberle added five kills in the third set and the Lions opened a 23-9 lead, but the Tigers rallied back on an 11-1 run before A&M-Commerce capitalized on an East Central error to take the 2-1 lead. After 15 ties through the fourth set and tied a 25, Perla Faudoa assisted two kills and Oberle converted both with kills as the Lions sealed the match.
Sparks paced the Tigers with 13 kills and 11 digs. Hicks added 11 kills and Katy Fields finished with 10.
The Lions will look to continue their undefeated streak in conference play, hosting Tarleton State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
