Flynn Earns Weekly Recognition; Lions Prepare for Abilene Christian

A record-setting week just got better for Texas A&M
University-Commerce junior libero Lauren Flynn.
After collecting 41 digs over two matches against Eastern New
Mexico and West Texas A&M, Flynn surpassed Sara Wedberg’s
career digs mark and is now the all-time leader in the
A&M-Commerce record books with 1,655 career digs. Adding to her
achievement, Flynn was named Co-Lone Star Conference Defensive
Player of the Week by the LSC.
It’s the third time this season she has earned the honor, and
sixth of her career.
“For Lauren to get this award three times in a year is great
not only for her, but is also great for the team, and even for the
overall athletic program. I am very proud of the way that she
has really led our defensive and serve receive efforts,” said
Lions head volleyball coach Mark Pryor.
The Deer Park, Texas native totaled 26 digs in a 3-1 win over
Eastern New Mexico on Thursday to help the Lions extend their
season-long winning streak to four games. Only four digs away from
setting the career mark against West Texas A&M, Flynn totaled
15 digs and jumped Wedberg’s total of 1,643.
“The great thing about Lauren breaking this record is that
she has not really even talked about it,” said Pryor.
“Even after I saw the box score on Saturday and told her, her
answer was ‘thanks coach, but we still
lost.’” That attitude is why she has become such
a leader for this program.”
Flynn and the Lions now look ahead to Abilene Christian on Thursday
at 7 p.m. in the A&M-Commerce Field House.
The Lions will be looking to break a three game skid to the
Wildcats, and start another winning streak after the loss to West
Texas A&M snapped their season-long roll.
Despite the loss to the Lady Buffs, A&M-Commerce has reeled off
nine wins in its last 12 matches and is in the midst of its best
season since 2003, when the team won 15 matches.
