Lions prepare for Cameron; Williams, Flynn to be honored

Along with Thursday’s match
against Cameron at the A&M-Commerce Field House, the Texas
A&M University-Commerce volleyball team will honor senior
Brittany Williams and junior Lauren Flynn.
Williams, a four-year player and the only senior on the
Lions’ squad, will be honored as part of Senior Night, and
Flynn, who broke Sara Wedberg’s record of 1,643 career digs
on Oct. 11, will also be recognized.
Over her 346 games, Williams has totaled 630 kills, 1,156 assists,
109 aces, 68 blocks and ranks No. 7 in the A&M-Commerce record
books with 1,044 career digs. Playing multiple positions throughout
her career, she moved back to her outside hitter role this season
and led the Lions with 75 kills and 88 points through nine
matches.
Flynn went into the Oct. 11 match against West Texas A&M
needing just four digs to hold the top spot for digs in a career.
She finished with 15 to overtake Wedberg and has since raised her
career total to 1,779. She has averaged 5.75 digs per set
throughout her career and leads the LSC with 5.70 digs per game
this season.
After the pre-game festivities, A&M-Commerce takes on Cameron
at 7 p.m. and will be looking to become the first Lions team since
1995 to win more than seven conference matches in a season.
A&M-Commerce currently stands at 15-9 overall and 7-4 in
conference play, good for a four-way tie for third place.
Cameron comes in with a 13-12 record and 4-7 mark in conference
action, and sits 10th in the conference standings.
Thursday’s match is also Greek Night at the Field House. The
loudest and most spirited sorority or fraternity that cheers on the
Lions throughout the match will win prize money.
The Lions wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a 5 p.m.
match against Midwestern State at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
