Lions fall to Cameron in three; Williams, Flynn honored

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior Brittany Williams and junior Lauren Flynn controlled the floor during the pre-match festivities, but the Cameron Aggies took control when the match started and downed the Lions, 25-11, 26-24, 25-20, on Thursday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

“I am unbelievably proud of these seven student-athletes,” said Mark Pryor. “The score is not indicative of how hard (the Lions) worked, and I am very, very pleased with the way they fought in games two and three.

Williams was recognized as a part of senior night, and Flynn was honored for breaking the career digs record earlier in the season.

A&M-Commerce falls to 15-10 overall and 7-5 in Lone Star Conference play, while Cameron improves to 14-12 and 5-7.

The Lions played with seven players the entire match due to injuries to the rest of the roster, and responded after falling behind 1-0. After 10 ties in the second, A&M-Commerce grabbed a late lead before Cameron tied the game at 21, 22 and 24, and eventually took advantage of two Lion errors to take the 2-0 lead. The Aggies trailed early again in the third, but an 11-6 spurt midway through the set helped Cameron take the lead before Malyssa Acton finished the match with a kill.

“For us to even have a chance in the second set speaks to the character of these young women,” said Pryor.

Alyssa Oberle and Terra Ousley recorded six kills apiece to pace the Lions. Flynn led four Lions in double digit digs with 28, and Perla Faudoa finished with 20 assists and 18 digs.

Flynn averaged 9.33 digs per set throughout the match and raised her season digs total to 541. She also raised her LSC-best digs per set total to 5.82.

Lindsay Pazuik finished with 10 kills and 11 digs, and Whitney Long followed with nine kills to lead the Aggies,

A&M-Commerce remains at home for its final regular season match against Midwestern State on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Field House.
