A&M-Commerce falls to Tarleton State, 3-0, in LSC Tournament

Despite a match-high 13 kills and 17 digs from Amy Addison (pictured; provided by Jeremy Enlow), the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions dropped their first round match in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, 25-15, 25-18, 26-24, to Tarleton State on Thursday afternoon in Canyon, Texas.
"I was pleased with our energy and effort level," said Lions head coach Mark Pryor.
The Lions finish the season with an
overall record of 15-12, while Tarleton State improves to 22-9 and
advances to the semifinals.
After falling behind 2-0 and trailing midway through the third set,
Terra Ousley sparked a Lions’ 8-2 run with a
kill to take the 20-17 lead. A&M-Commerce looked to extend the
match to a fourth set, but a kill by Shay Gracy broke a 24-24 tie
and an error by the Lions helped secure the win for the TexAnns.
"It was obvious that the opposing teams in the crowd were impressed with our level of play, even with only having seven players," said Pryor. "When you have conference opponents in the crowd cheering for us, that's a great indication that we're putting a quality product on the floor, regardless of numbers."
Alyssa Oberle
recorded 10 kills and Morgan Ballard and Ousley
each chipped in six for the Lions. Perla Faudoa
totaled 31 assists and Lauren Flynn closed with 14
digs.
Gracy paced Tarleton State with 12 kills. Missy Castro posted nine
kills and 11 digs, and Emily Richardson contributed nine kills for
the TexAnns, who move on to face Abilene Christian on Friday at 5
p.m.
The Lions now head into the off-season after finishing their best
season since 2002, when the team went 23-14.
"I'm extremely pleased with how this season has gone," said Pryor. "These kids have fought through injury and adversity, and I think this year was a great foundation for A&M-Commerce volleyball."
