Naomi Mays and Lauren Flynn Earn Recognition from Lone Star Conference
On the strength of a 10-match winning streak, Texas A&M University-Commerce junior Naomi Mays (Columbus, Texas/Tyler JC) (pictured) and senior Lauren Flynn (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park HS) were named Lone Star Conference co-Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively on Tuesday.
Mays picks up her first career honor from the LSC after averaging a team-best 4.88 kills per set, last week. She had a team-high 14 kills in the win over A&M-Kingsville (Sept. 17) and 24 more to equal a season-high in the win over Tarleton State (Sept. 19). In the process, she also hit a .321 clip and was one of three Lions to hit over .300, last week. Her seven digs and three blocks against Tarleton were her second highest total of the season.
For Flynn, it is the second-straight week she has earned the weekly honor from the LSC. The senior currently leads the nation with 6.32 digs per set and averaged 6.90 digs per set in three wins for A&M-Commerce over Southern Arkansas, Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville, last week.
Fans are encouraged to JAM the GYM on Thursday night as Texas A&M University-Commerce will host No. 7 West Texas A&M at 7 pm in the A&M-Commerce Field House.
