Lions See Winning Streak End at 10 in Front of School Record Crowd
The energy and enthusiasm of a Texas A&M-Commerce Field House school record crowd of 750 was not enough as the No. 7 West Texas A&M volleyball team defeated the Lions, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19, on Thursday night.
A&M-Commerce (14-4, 2-1 LSC) saw its 10-match winning streak come to an end in the defeat. Lions' freshman Rachel Robertson paced an attack that hit .029 with a team-high eight kills in the loss. Seniors Lauren Flynn and Amy Addison each had 16 and 10 digs, respectively. Freshman Ashleigh Barnett had a team-high three service aces and senior Perla Faudoa had 20 assists.
West Texas A&M (14-2, 3-0 LSC) extended its winning streak to seven in a row as they hit at a .265 clip with a balanced attack. Melissa Harper had a match-high 10 kills in the win. The Lady Buffs controlled the front line with eight total team blocks - four block solos and eight block assists - including three block solos and two block assists from Lauren Purdy.
The Lions will look to start a new winning streak on Saturday at 2 pm when they host Eastern New Mexico at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
