Lions Win in Straight Sets on Senior Day Over Southwestern Oklahoma State
The Texas A&M University-Commerce posted a convincing 25-14, 25-14, 25-10 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Senior Day at the A&M-Commerce Field House on Saturday.
The Lions (21-7, 6-3 LSC) led from the first serve until an Alyssa Oberle service ace on the final point of the match. After playing back-to-back matches that went five sets, head coach Mark Pryor was happy about his team’s performance. “I was pleased that we played with energy throughout the match and that we hit well offensively,” said Pryor.
A&M-Commerce seniors Amy Addison, Perla Faudoa, Lauren Flynn and Alyssa Oberle were recognized in pre-match ceremonies and all four had a role in the straight-set win. It is the Lions’ 12th win in straight sets on the season.
Addison and Oberle led the attack in the win. Addison had a match-high 10 kills, including six in the second set. Oberle had eight kills and tied a career-high with four service aces. Freshman Rachel Robertson added nine kills in the win. Flynn had 18 digs to move closer to breaking her own single-season digs record. She enters this week just three shy of the mark. Plus, Faudoa had 29 assists, six digs and four kills in the win.
Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-26, 2-8 LSC) managed to hit just .010 in the loss. Emily Walter had a team-high nine kills in the loss for the Bulldogs. Sulphur Springs, Texas native Tara Gibby had a team-high 10 digs and Kristen Kaufman added 13 assists.
The Lions will be on the road for its next matches when they take on Midwestern State on Thursday, October 29th at 7 pm. For A&M-Commerce assistant coach Jessica Ransom it will be her first trip back to Wichita Falls since joining the Lions’ coaching staff this fall.
