Lauren Flynn Becomes First-Ever First Team All-American in School History in Volleyball

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior volleyball player Lauren Flynn on Friday became the first player in school history to earn first team All-American honors.

"This is a great honor for Lauren and I am so happy for her. This is an appropriate award for her to end her career with us at A&M-Commerce," said head coach Mark Pryor

Flynn was selected first team Daktronics All-American in a vote conducted by sports information directors nationwide. Pamela Cartagena of Pittsburg State, Jane Chafeh of Cal State-San Bernardino, Melissa Vanderhall of Tampa, Stormi Gate of Wingate, Emily Palkert and Maggie McNamara of Concordia-St. Paul joined her on the All-American First Team. McNamara was also named the national player of the year.

The Deer Park, Texas native led the nation with 6.21 digs per set in 2009 en route to earning Lone Star Conference Libero of the Year, first team all-Lone Star Conference, first team all-region Daktronics and honorable mention AVCA all-region honors.

Flynn finished her eligibility with an A&M-Commerce single-season record with 795 this fall and the school's career record with 2,640.

She is only the third All-American in volleyball in school history, joining Hall of Fame members Alice Fortes in 1986 and 1987 and Paulette Pilcik in 1987 as both earned second team honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
