Lions Fall to Southwest Baptist at TexAnn Invitational

Texas A&M University-Commerce dropped a 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 decision to Southwest Baptist on the final day of the TexAnn Invitational on Saturday.

A&M-Commerce (4-4) was held to a .022 hitting percentage in the loss and freshman Kayla Bond paced the attack with eight kills. 

Southwest Baptist (5-2) played a strong all-around match, hitting .382, serving up seven service aces and posting 6.5 blocks en route to the straight-set win. 

The Bearcats started the match with a .727 hitting percentage in the opening set, connecting on 17 kills and just one error to win the first set by a 25-13 margin. SBU took a two set lead, winning the second by a 25-15 margin. In the second set, they got off to a quick start building a 12-3 advantage and never looked back.

In the third and final set, the Lions would get as close as 19-17, following a Reagan Hayes kill. However, SBU answered with six-straight points, including two service aces by Iceley Perry to close out the match.

A&M-Commerce will return to action on Thursday, September 16th when they travel to Canyon to face West Texas A&M at 7 p.m.
