A&M-Commerce opens up the second half of Lone Star Conference action this weekend at the Field House, hosting a pair of teams chasing the Lions in the conference standings. A&M-Commerce hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5 p.m. Friday evening, followed by a showdown with Incarnate Word Saturday at 1 p.m.

Dig Pink Against the Cardinals
Saturday’s match against Incarnate Word marks A&M-Commerce’s annual Dig Pink match, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match as the Lion Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be passing the bucket to raise funds for breast cancer research. Free pink ribbon t-shirts will be handed out at the door, so come early, cheer loud and help in the fight against breast cancer.

Synopsis: After starting the year winning six of its first seven matches, A&M-Kingsville went through a six-match losing skid, but the Javelinas have rebounded to win four of their last five. A&M-Kingsville is 3-6 in Lone Star Conference play, winning three-straight against Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico before dropping a 3-0 match to West Texas A&M during a four-match homestand.
Series Information: A&M-Commerce and A&M-Kingsville meet for the 49th time Friday afternoon as the Lions hold a commanding 39-9 edge in the all-time series. The Lions swept the Javelinas 3-0 in Kingsville on Sept. 15, snapping a two-game losing skid to the Javelinas, with A&M-Commerce posting a 16-3 all-time record against A&M-Kingsville at the Field House.

Incarnate Word plays at Texas Woman’s Friday night before visiting the Field House Saturday.
Series Information: Saturday marks the 13th meeting between A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word with the Cardinals holding a 7-5 edge in the all-time series. The Lions have won the last two meetings, including last season’s 3-2 rally at the Field House and a 3-0 victory in San Antonio on Sept. 14. Saturday marks just the fourth Incarnate Word visit to the Field House as A&M-Commerce is 1-2 against the Cardinals in Commerce.

Through the first half of the 2012 season, a handful of Lions rank among the national leaders in a number of categories. Senior middle blocker Rachel Robertson continues her quest to become an All-American, ranking 25th nationally in points per set (4.38), 29th in hitting percentage (.372) and 44th in kills per set (3.60). Jordan Neal ranks 28th nationally in assists per set (10.33) while Michaela Spicer is 42nd in digs per set (4.86).

Looking Ahead
Following the pair of matches this weekend, A&M-Commerce embarks on its final extended road trip of the season with three critical Lone Star Conference matches. The Lions visit Eastern New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 19, followed by a showdown with nationally-ranked West Texas A&M in Canyon on Saturday, Oct. 20. A&M-Commerce then visits Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 23 before returning to the Field House for five of the final six matches of the 2012 season.
