Rachel Robertson had a monumental night, recording 14 kills with a .423 hitting percentage, four blocks and eight digs, complemented by 11 kills, a .346 hitting percentage and three blocks for Ezon Onditi. Breanne Snyder added 10 kills and nine digs as A&M-Commerce hit .259 for the match, compared to .079 for A&M-Kingsville.

Coming into the match, both teams were hungry to get the victory as the Lions entered the weekend tied for fifth in Lone Star Conference play with the Javelinas one match back in a tie for seventh overall. Spurred on by the importance of the match, A&M-Commerce pounced out to an early 7-1 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The Lions would extend that cushion to double-digits, cruising to the 25-12 victory behind five kills and three blocks from Robertson.
Despite the lopsided defeat in the opener, A&M-Kingsville grabbed the early momentum in the second set. The Javelinas led by five at 19-14 as the teams entered the stretch run and appeared poised to even the match at a set apiece.
But the Lions responded with a 6-0 run to take its first lead since the early stages of the set at 20-19, setting up a back-and-forth battle down the stretch. The teams would exchange leads as the Javelinas were serving for set point at 24-22. The Lions would fight off a pair of set points, then another at 25-24, before recording the final three points to steal the second 27-25, heading into intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The teams battled early in the third, but once again, A&M-Commerce began to pull away, building a 16-10 lead. From there, the Lions would fight off one last A&M-Kingsville rally, taking the third 25-19 to notch the season sweep of the Javelinas and pull even in conference play at 5-5.
With Incarnate Word falling at Texas Woman's 3-1 Friday night, that puts A&M-Commerce in sole possession of fifth-place in the Lone Star Conference standings, and also sets up a huge showdown Saturday afternoon when the Cardinals visit the Field House. A&M-Commerce defeated Incarnate Word 3-0 in San Antonio in its LSC opener and will look to put some distance between itself and the Cardinals.
Saturday's match marks A&M-Commerce's "Dig Pink" match as free breast cancer awareness t-shirts will be handed out at the door. Donations will also be collected, with 100% of the funds going directly towards breast cancer research, as well as the Lions wearing special pink jerseys. The game will be live streamed at LionAthletics.com, with live statistics and Twitter updates available as well.
